Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of varying levels of nitrogen (0, 9 and 18g N per plant) and phosphorus(0, 3 and 6 g P₂O₅, per plant) in factorial combinations, on the growth of Ailanthus excelsa planted on an arid sandy soil in Rajasthan. Nitrogen application at the rate of 9g N per plant improved the plant height by 24 per cent when recorded after one year of plantation. Phosphorus application at the rate of 6 g P₂O₅ per plant improved the ischolar_main length by 27 per cent and ischolar_main spread five folds after one year of plantation. Preplant application of 9g N combined with 6g P₂O₅, per plant was the best treatment which improved the height of two year old trees from 144 to 213 cm.

Abstract

Objectives: To study &compare the efficacy of taping protocol/Technique over Conventional treatment technique protocol in Bells Palsy.

Materials and Method: The study was conducted on 30 subjects. Subjects were divided into two groups. One group was given Electrical stimulation and exercises and other group was given electrical stimulation , facial exercises and taping.

Results- There exists significant difference between post-treatment scores of both the groups. The study concluded that the treatment of Es+facial exercise+tapping is effective in curing bell's palsy

Conclusion: Group B protocol is more effective for functional retraining than conventional treatment in subjects with Bells Palsy.

Abstract

Leaf protein is a promising material for meeting the growing demands of food protein in the world. However, for food use, the colour and flavor are considered to be main drawbacks. There are a number of approaches to get bland and colourless leaf protein viz. solvent extraction of leaf protein concentrate (LPC) and fractionation of proteins of juice into pigment-rich chloroplastic LPC and pigment-free cytoplasmic LPC by differential centrifugation, heat and organic solvents. The present investigation deals with nutritive value of some fractionated and solvent extracted leaf protein preparations.

Abstract

The RAWEX-GVAX field campaign has been carried out from June 2011 to March 2012 over a high altitude site Manora Peak, Nainital (29.4°N; 79.2°E; 1958 m amsl) in the central Himalayas to assess the impacts of absorbing aerosols on atmospheric thermodynamics and clouds. This paper presents the preliminary results of the observations and data analysis of the Doppler Lidar, installed at Nainital. Strong updrafts with vertical winds in the range of ~2-4 ms^-1 occurred during the daytime and throughout the season indicating thermally driven convection. On the other hand during nighttime, weak downdrafts persisted during stable conditions. Plan Position Indicator scan of Doppler Lidar showed north-northwesterly winds in the boundary layer. The mixing layer height, derived from the vertical velocity variance, showed diurnal variations, in the range ~0.7-1 km above ground level during daytime and very shallow during nighttime.

Abstract

Objective: To find the best mesh based on wall y+ approach and to model turbulence flow numerically over a surface mounted cube so that appropriate mesh can be selected and thereby the best grid configuration can be found. Methods: The study uses three mesh configuration based on wall y plus to capture the turbulence and its complex characteristic for moderate high Reynolds number. The study depends on Reynolds number 40,000 which is based on height of the cube and bulk velocity and the numerical and analysis results are compared with the recognised published work on the flow past ground mounted prismatic body placed in a fully developed turbulent channel flow. The turbulence model used in this work is large eddy simulation incorporating Smagorinsky scheme. The investigation of near wall treatments is done for maximum wall y+≈5 covering the viscous sub layer, maximum y+≈23 the buffer region and maximum y+≈40 resolving the log-law region.OpenFoam platform under Linux OS is used for the study. Findings: After completion of three numerical simulations based on three grids various results in terms of fluid parameters are discussed such as drag and lift, velocity profile, pressure profile, Q criteria etc. It has been found that the drag force varies from 1.13 to 1.38 and lift coefficients varies from 0.8 to 1.0. Strouhal number varies from 0.45 to 2.17. Maximum and minimum pressure values are also been found and is discussed in the result & discussion section of this paper. Application: The method described in the present study is very helpful in finding the best suitable grid for CFD analysis. As it is very well known fact that, if the grid is not good enough for any CFD study, the result of the simulation will be wayward. Finding the best grid or mesh is a time consuming process and also involves high cost. This method can minimize the cost and also saves lots of computational time.

Abstract

The salts of Zinc (Zn), Cadmium (Cd), Lead (Pb), Copper (Cu), are of great toxicological importance and can causes poisoning. Therefore quantitative determination of traces of zinc, cadmium, lead, copper, in blood is very essential. Routinely, inductive coupled plasma, atomic absorption spectrometry, graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry were used for analysis. An attempt has been made to develop new method for simultaneous determination of traces of zinc, cadmium, lead, copper, in blood done by differential-pulse anodic-stripping voltammetry. Blood was processed by wet digestion method using concentrated nitric acid and sulphuric acid. Determination of zinc, cadmium, lead, copper, was made in acetate buffer (pH 4.6) with a sweep rate (scan rate) of 60.0 mV/s and pulse amplitude 50 mV by Hanging Mercury Dropping Electrode (HMDE) by standard addition method .The solution was stirred during pre-electrolysis at -1150 mV(vs. Ag/AgCl) for 90 s and the potential was scanned from -1150m V to +100m V (vs. Ag/ AgCl). Under these conditions the limit of detection of zinc, cadmium, lead, and copper were 1.0 μg/L, 1.0 μg/L, 0.1 μg/L, 1.0 μg/L and respectively.

Abstract

An experiment was conducted with wheat varieties and zinc application method in sodic soil at Main Experiment Station, N.D.University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumarganj, Faizabad in Rabi season 2005-06. The specific objective is to identify the economical and effective method of zinc application with reference to growth, yield and quality of wheat under sodic soil condition. Twelve treatment comprised of four methods of zinc application i.e. control and 0.5,1.0, zinc sulphate seed soaking and basal 20 kg ZnS04 ha^-1 and three wheat varieties ( NW1012, PBW343 and Malviya 468) were tested in three replications. Seeds were soaked as per treatment for four hours and dried in shade for 24 hours before sowing. Seeds soaking and basal application with ZnS04 increased plant height, number of tillers plant^-1, chlorophyll content, total soluble sugar and grain yield plant^-1 over control. Overall performance of NW1012 variety of wheat showed superiority over Malviya 468 and PBW 343. Basal application of ZnS04 was found more effective over seed soaking method with respect to yield and quality of wheat under soil condition.
